A brief History

Established since 1997 with Principal M Bashori, in 1998 the Principal was held by Drs.Muhadi, who served for 2 periods. Since September 2006 Drs. Muhadi retired. Before there was a substitute for the definitive headmaster, then for leadership he was managed by SMA 1 Pakem, as the closest public school. This is done until there is a permanent replacement for the Principal. Cangkringan 1 Public High School in 1997 was named Cangkringan 1 Public High School, but in 2004 it changed its name to Cangkringan 1 Public High School until now.

Academic Support System

SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan has four classes in this academic year. This school is an ecofriendly school, in every front of the classroom there is a garden and every day the students takes care of the garden. They also have different plants in their backyard, a laboratory room, faculty room, library, students center, a parking lot for the motorcycle and a room for arts in making batik. The following facilities helps the teachers and students to have a better learning with an ecofriendly school environment.

Teaching System

The SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan has three grades, the Grade 10, Grade 11 and the Grade 12. Each grade has four section (IPS 1, IPS 2, MIPA 1 and MIPA 2) they have classes from Monday to Saturday. Every day they have flag ceremony, that’s why the students and also the teachers will be enter the school before 6:55 in the morning because the gate will close at 6:56am. For those who become late will sing the national anthem in front of the school as a punishment. Every time that the students are entering the school, they always do “salim” as a sign of respect in their culture. The classes will end at 4:00pm, and every Friday they always have a general cleaning. All of the students participate even the teachers and the staff of the school. I really admired them because all of the students are kind and industrious and the teachers are really great.

Materials and Other Learning Resources

During my observation in Economic Education class of my cooperating teacher, I noticed that during discussion the teacher and students used textbooks as their references. Also each classroom has a projector, screen, whiteboard and table and chairs. These kind of learning materials really helps both of the teacher and the students to have a better teaching learning process. I saw that the classroom is very conducive for the students. Having this kind of learning environment is a very good thing to comfortably learn inside the classroom.

My cooperating teacher discussing the Basic Principles of Economic, and the students are having a textbook as their reference for the lesson. All of them are wearing Traditional Javanese Attire for the program on that day.

Measurement and Evaluation System

There are many ways to measure and evaluate the knowledge of the students. During my observation of my cooperating teacher, Bu Tetih used formative assessment during discussion. After the lesson she used summative assessment in order for her to evaluate the students if they really understand the lesson. In SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan, they teacher also use written examination to assess the students learning for the whole grading period.

General Curriculum

SMA Negeri 1 Cangkringan uses Educational Unit Level Curriculum (KTSP) or 2006 Curriculum is an educational operational curriculum compiled by, and implemented in, each education unit in Indonesia. The KTSP is legally mandated by Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System, and Republic of Indonesia Government Regulation Number 19 of 2005 concerning National Education Standards Preparation of KTSP by schools begins the 2007/2008 school year by referring to the Standards of Content (SI) and Graduates' Competency Standards (SKL) for primary and secondary education as published through the National Minister of Education Regulation Number 22 Year 2006 and Number 23 Year 2006, as well as the KTSP.

One of the prominent changes in KTSP compared to the previous curriculum was that KTSP was decentralized. That is, all rules are included in the curriculum, which was previously designed and determined by the central government, in the KTSP some rules in the curriculum were submitted to be developed and decided by parties in the area or school. Although there is freedom to develop at the education unit level, curriculum development must refer to the National Education Standards set by the National Education Standards Agency ( BSNP).) This stipulation is stated in the Minister of National Education Regulation number 23 of 2006 concerning Graduates' Competency Standards in Primary and Secondary Education Units. [2] KTSP consists of educational objectives at the educational unit level, structure, and content of the education unit level curriculum, education calendar, and syllabus.

The KTSP implementation refers to the Minister of National Education Regulation Number 24 Year 2006 concerning Implementation of SI and SKL.

Content standards are the scope of the material, and the level of competence as outlined in the requirements for graduate competence, competency in subject matter competency studies, and learning syllabus that must be met by students at certain levels and types of education. Content standards are guidelines for the development of an education unit level curriculum that contains:

• basic framework, and curriculum structure,

• the burden of learning

• educational unit level curriculum developed at the education unit level, and

• education calendar.

SKL is used as a guideline for assessment in determining the graduation of students from educational units. SKL includes competencies for all subjects or subject groups.
